UDL Product Certification from CAST
The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Product Certification, a collaboration between CAST and Digital Promise with support from the Educating All Learners Alliance, helps inform educators who are evaluating the accessibility and usability of edtech products. Learn more about the UDL Product Certification launch. Products must prioritize student access and engagement. The product must be transparent in its communication about accessibility practices and conformance and consider learners’ interests and motivations. It ensures learners have multiple ways to gain comprehension, and it provides multiple ways for learners to share their knowledge and ideas
The Product Certification has two phases which must be completed in the order below:
- Accessibility Baseline for the Universal Design for Learning Product Certification: The accessibility baseline provides information about conformance to the accessibility principles defined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and that this information is easy to locate on the product developer’s website for those who need to make purchasing and/or adoption decisions related to the product. This certification serves as a prerequisite for the Alignment to the Universal Design for Learning Framework certification.
- Alignment to the Universal Design for Learning Framework: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is core to the product’s design. The product prioritizes learner access and engagement. The product considers learners’ interests and motivations. It ensures learners have multiple ways to gain comprehension, and it provides multiple ways for learners to share their knowledge and ideas.
